Michael DingkuhnMichael is a crop physiologist and modeler seconded from Cirad (International Center for Agronomic Research for Development) in France to IRRI. He coordinates and leads the GRiSP Global Rice Phenotyping Network, a consortium of about 15 partner laboratories operating in 10 countries on 5 continents, with the aim to mine the rice species’ existing genetic diversity for new, useful genes for molecular breeding.

Michael also conducts physiological and modeling research on traits contributing to rice yield potential, on the development of new rice plant type concepts to raise the yield ceiling, as well as on strategies to sustain and improve yield potential under future climate change scenarios.

Being seconded from Cirad to IRRI on a multiannual basis, Michael works 75% of his time at IRRI in the Philippines and 25% in Montpellier on a collaborative basis.
