Dr. Emerlinda R. Roman is a professor at the College of Business Administration at the University of the Philippines, Diliman. She made history not only as UP's Centennial president, but also as its first woman president.
Board of Trustees
IRRI's Board of Trustees (BOT) sets IRRI policy. Its 15 members are world leaders in their respective disciplines. Three are ex officio: the Philippine Secretary of Agriculture, the President of the University of the Philippines system, and the IRRI director general. The board meets twice a year (April and October) to review IRRI's research priorities, and its allocation of resources and to set the Institute's scientific directions, policies, and strategies. The director general is responsible for carrying out these policies. Dr. Emerlinda R. Roman is the current chair of the BOT.
Dr. Tahlim Sudaryanto is Senior Agricultural Economist at the Indonesian Center for Agriculture Socio Economic and Policy Studies (ICASEPS) under the Ministry of Agriculture, the Republic of Indonesia.
Akinori Noguchi is a Professor of Food Sciences at the Ishikawa Prefectural University in Japan.
Dr. S. Ayyappan is the Secretary of the Department of Agricultural Research and Education (DARE) of the Ministry of Agriculture of India. He is also Director General of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), where he worked previously as Deputy Director General of Fisheries.
Kaye Basford is a Professor in Biometry at the University of Queensland, where she is currently also President of the Academic Board and was Head of the School of Land, Crop and Food Sciences (2001-2011).
Jim Godfrey, OBE, DSc, a farmer from the United Kingdom, is a Director of the Godfrey family farming companies. They produce a range of agricultural commodities, including potatoes, in Lincolnshire and Yorkshire. He graduated from the University of Reading.
Joyce K. Kikafunda has been appointed last year as Uganda's Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Court of St. James to protect and promote Uganda’s national interests and positions in the UK and Ireland.
Dr. Rita Sharma is secretary to the National Advisory Council of the Government of India. Since 1974, Dr. Sharma has held numerous government positions in India; working in the areas of agricultural development, food security, poverty alleviation, rural livelihood, natural resource management, gender, and financial management.
Suthad Setboonsarng is an economist currently serving as a board member of Banpu PLC, one of the largest private energy companies in Thailand. He is also a board member of the Cambodia Development Research Institute (CDRI).
Prior to his appointment as secretary of agriculture, Mr. Proceso J. Alcala was a member of the House of Representatives of the Philippine Congress. He represented the 2nd District of Quezon Province.
P. (Peter) Stephen Baenziger is the Nebraska Wheat Growers Presidential Chair in the Department of Agronomy and Horticulture at the University of Nebraska.
Prof. Dr. h.c. Friedrich Berschauer is the former chairman of the Board of Management of Bayer CropScience AG. He held this position since April 2004 until his retirement in October 2010.
Prof. Zhai Huqu is previously the President of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS) and is former president of Nanjing Agricultural University (NAU).
Mr. Alfredo E. Pascual is the 20th President of the University of the Philippines, a system consisting of seven constituent universities and an autonomous college.
Dr. Robert Stewart Zeigler worked as a plant pathologist at IRRI in the Philippines from 1992 to 1998. During which he led the Institute’s Rainfed Lowland Rice Research Program (1992-1996) and the Irrigated Rice Research Program (1996-1998).
