Manoranjan Kumar Mondal

Manoranjan is currently working as the project scientist under the Crop and Environmental Sciences Division (CESD) of IRRI.

He is implementing the WLE-funded project “Community water management for improved food security, nutrition and livelihoods in the polders of the coastal zone of Bangladesh” in collaboration with the water management organizations; crop production specialists; natural resource professionals and managers; social scientists; aquaculture specialists and economists; GO-NGO researchers; extension providers and policy makers. The WLE project addresses the problems of food insecurity and extreme poverty of approximately 8 million people living in the polders of the coastal zone of Bangladesh. The aim of the project is to demonstrate and evaluate a novel approach for improving water management for more resilient, productive and diverse cropping systems, and for sustainably improving water governance and equity in water use at sub-polder scale for food and nutritional security of the polder communities living in the coastal Ganges basin in Bangladesh.

He is working with the multi-disciplinary and multi-institutional team not only to generate appropriate and sustainable crop and water management technologies, but also to upscale the research results for food security and to improve livelihoods of the coastal farming communities of Bangladesh.
