Achim Dobermann, IRRI's former Deputy Director General for Research

Achim is a soil scientist and agronomist with 25 years experience working in Asia, North America and Europe. He is recognized internationally as an authority on science and technology for food security and sustainable management of the world’s major cereal cropping systems. He has authored and co-authored over 250 scientific papers and two books on nutrients in rice. He has also received numerous awards from various academic, government and industry organizations. Achim is a Fellow of the American Society of Agronomy and a Fellow of the Soil Science Society of America.

Achim provided strategic leadership and oversight for IRRI’s research and outreach programs on genetic resources, biotechnology, rice breeding, crop and natural resources management, climate change, socioeconomic and policy research, information sharing, and capacity building. He is also the Co-chair of the Thematic Group on Sustainable Agriculture and Food Systems of the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) and an Editor of the journal Global Food Security.
