About

As Research Manager of IRRI Service Laboratories (ISL), Lilia manages three laboratories—Analytical Service Laboratories, Grain Quality Evaluation Services, and Genotyping Service Laboratory which play a vital role in providing solutions to laboratory testing and support services needs of research and agricultural industry worldwide especially the Institute's international collaborators. ISL provides high quality, timely, reliable, and cost-effective analytical tests, grain quality evaluation, genotyping, sampling, DNA extraction and lab instrument support services that satisfy the needs of its international customers and meet the requirements of the ISO/IEC 17025 standard.

Lilia joined IRRI in 1995 as a Research Assistant in the Institute's Soil Microbiology Department. She then joined Neo Ventures Corporation as a Sales Area Manager. In 1998, she rejoined IRRI serving in different capacities from Research Assistant to Laboratory Manager before becoming ISL's Cluster Leader in 2018. Prior to IRRI, she was a Laboratory Instructor/Technician at the Biochemistry Department of King Saud University for Women, Riyadh, KSA; Chemist at San Miguel Corporation, Philippines; and Chemist/Research Assistant at the Institute of Chemistry, University of the Philippines Los Baños.

Lilia earned her MSc degree in Environmental Science, Major in Environmental Chemistry with a GWA of 1.18 and BSc degree in Chemistry from the University of the Philippines Los Baños, Laguna, Philippines. She completed an International Postgraduate short course on Soil and Plant Analysis and Data Handling from Wageningen University, The Netherlands.
