Junel B. Soriano

Dr. Soriano is part of the IRRI Leadership Team, focusing on deepening collaborations with government agencies, academic institutions, development partners, and local communities in the Philippines. He also provides strategic governance support, regulatory affairs, and host country relations, while also serving as Corporate Secretary to the IRRI Board of Trustees.

A recognized leader in the Philippine agriculture sector, Dr. Soriano brings over two decades of experience in advancing science-based solutions for sustainable and resilient agri-food systems. Previously, he was Director IV of the Department of Agriculture–Bureau of Agricultural Research, and he also held roles as Assistant Director and OIC Director of the Bureau of Soils and Water Management, and as Technical Adviser to the Department Senior Undersecretary.

Dr. Soriano holds a PhD in Agricultural Engineering from Central Luzon State University, and earned his Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees in Agricultural Engineering from Tarlac Agricultural University.
