Danilo L. Concepcion is the 21st President of the University of the Philippines (UP), a system consisting of eight constituent universities and an autonomous college spread throughout 17 campuses across the country.  

Founded in 1908 and declared as the national university in 2008, UP currently has more than 50,000 students, around 4,700 faculty members, and around 8,000 support staff, including 3,000 in the UP Philippine General Hospital.

Atty. Concepcion is widely respected as one of the Philippines' leading authorities in Corporation Law, specifically corporate governance, rehabilitation, and insolvency. Just before his appointment as UP President, Atty. Concepcion was Dean of the UP College of Law.

He served as President of the De La Salle-Araneta University from 2000-2002 on secondment from UP. He returned to UP in 2002 to teach at the College of Law, and served in various capacities as Associate Dean of the UP College of Law, Head of the UP Law Center, and Director of the Institute of Judicial Administration until May 2006. He was appointed Vice President for Legal Affairs of the UP System in February 2011, and was elected the 14th Dean of the UP College of Law in June 2011, serving until 2017. In 2015, he was appointed Executive Director of the UP Bonifacio Global City.

Atty. Concepcion was also an elected member of the Batasang Pambansa in 1978 and served until 1984 as a representative of the youth sector. He also served in various capacities for the government including his appointment as Associate Commissioner of the Securities and Exchange Commission (1996-2000), and Chief-of-Staff of the Chief Presidential Legal Counsel (1996), among others.

Currently, he sits at the Board of Governors of the Philippine Red Cross. He also teaches at the Philippine Judicial Academy and is a member of its Civil Code Committee. He is a member of the Mandatory Continuing Legal Education Governing Board, as well as the Supreme Court of the Philippines’ Committee on Legal Education and Bar Matters.

Aside from being an academic and an administrator, President Concepcion has rendered a distinct public service by giving free legal advice over radio and television for the past 15 years, most notably on DZMM Teleradyo’s Usapang de Campanilla.

President Concepcion graduated with a degree in Agricultural Engineering, summa cum laude, from the De La Salle-Araneta University in 1979. He obtained his LL.B. from the UP College of Law in 1983 (cum laude) and his LL.M. from the University of London in 1986 as a Chevening Scholar.

He specializes in commercial arbitration, securities law, international finance, and international economic and trade law.
