Amit Kumar Srivastava

Amit specializes in geospatial technology and currently leads the IRRI South Asia Geospatial Lab. His research primarily focuses on South Asia, as well as regions in Africa and Southeast Asia. At IRRI, he has conducted extensive studies on technology targeting, stress and impact evaluation, digital monitoring, reporting, and verification (MRV), and mapping direct-seeded rice (DSR) and rice fallow areas within rice-based cropping systems.    

With his expertise in geospatial science, Amit has been involved in various IRRI and CGIAR projects and activities, including Excellence in Agonomy (EiA), Crop Health and Yield Monitoring using UAV-boarded remote sensing sensors, Scale Dirtect, Rice fallow mapping of 4 states of India, and Precision direct-seeded rice-based diversified systems for transforming labour requirement, yields, and profitability of smallholder farmers in Odisha.

Amit has nearly 20 years of experience working with government agencies, the private sector, non-governmental organizations, and CGIAR. Over the past 12 years, he has been extensively involved with several CGIAR institutes, including the International Water Management Institute (IWMI), the International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT), and the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI).
