Rice Tungro Disease Epidemiology and Vector Ecology

Rice Tungro Disease Epidemiology and Vector Ecology

T.C.B. Chancellor, P.S. Teng, K.L. Heong

This document contains papers summarizing the main activities carried out under the first phase of the collaborative project on vector ecology and epidemiology of rice tungro disease. The project was conducted by IRRI and NRI from November 1990 to December 1995 in collaboration with national agricultural research systems in India, Indonesia, and Philippines. The project aimed to help reduce yield losses due to tungro and to stabilize rice production in areas prone to the disease. This was to be achieved by identifying the key factors governing the epidemiology of rice tungro disease through a systematic field research program. The results obtained would be used to form the basis for the development of potential tungro control strategies that could then be validated and implemented in rice-growing areas in a further phase of the projects.
