The annual reports have constantly been evolving since its inception. In 2012, the Communication and Publishing Services has streamlined the report with the printed version being limited to a brochure format summarizing research highlights, milestones, and financial information.
The most interesting stories, Rice Today articles, and media releases of the year are highlighted as well in order to give the reader a full flavor of what IRRI's been up to for the last year.
Currently, IRRI also takes the lead in preparing the GRiSP annual report, having produced the first two installments in 2011 and 2012 in a traditional publication format.
The Annual Report 2013 provides a view of IRRI's performance in 2013 and brings the Institute’s research strategy and vision to life through stories. This year IRRI opened its regional office in Burundi to help improve food security in Eastern and Southern Africa. It continues to help rice-producing countries cope with the effects of climate changes with technologies—on farmer’s fields and from outer space. IRRI also released 44 new rice varieties that could handle various environmental stresses. These and other research thrusts, major events and activities in 2013 are covered in detail.
