Golden rice in the field

Golden Rice, a product of genetic modification, looks and grows like other non-GM rice.

Dr. Gerard Barry talks about Golden Rice.

Currently no varieties of genetically modified (GM) rice are grown commercially in the world, although several have been approved for commercialization.

Many organizations around the world, including IRRI, are using genetic modification as a research tool and in developing potential GM rice varieties.

IRRI believes that genetic modification and genetically modified rice have the potential to safely deliver unique benefits to rice farmers and consumers that cannot be achieved through other breeding methods. We apply guidelines to researching GM rice that include ensuring our research adheres to biosafety guidelines and that we remain open and transparent about our research.
